In the Swahili language it simply means journey. However, to the "chosen few" that have been to Africa's five top safari countries, it means so much more... It means beautiful wildlife, living unhampered in their completely natural habitat. It means an abundance of bird life seen nowhere else. It means hundreds of species of trees unique to the African bush. It means crisp, clear, fresh, unpolluted air! It means the most spectacular sunsets in the world. It also means large fires in a boma at night, with spectacular night skies. Hyenas and jackals calling spine chillingly close. Luxurious rooms decorated safari style. Meals that will make you want to stay longer... Yes. The African Safari has a very romantic side to it. The secret is, you can experience this "romantic" side without your spouse or any other person. It is an affair between you and Africa. really can have a significant impact on those that take them. Life is never quite the same again; you have joined an exclusive club whose members alone truly understand how intense and moving the African experience can be." - Susie Cazenove Africa! The greatest continent on earth? If not, it sure comes close... So why photo safaris? Since hunting became less socially acceptable (and so it should be!) the very reason for African safaris became questionable. Then there was a slow transition towards safaris for the wildlife photography enthusiast. This is good news... People started going on safari for the right reasons again. It is very special to learn about the spectacular wild animals, birds, plants and insects that God gave us to rule over. Learning about it, photographing it and sharing its beauty with other people gives you a sense of responsibility for it. All of a sudden the fact that they want to dam the Kavango river that feeds the Okavango delta, and issues like elephant culling start bothering you... And then you realise it. You have actually changed! And for the good! We have a natural heritage that we need to conserve for those coming after us. So where does the sales pitch start? You thought it would be one big sales pitch from here onwards, right? Wrong! This website is about more than that. It is about giving you all the information you will ever need on photo safaris. It is purely informative and teaching. I do not have anything to sell to you... This site will however empower you to decide: Just one warning. If you do go on such a once-in-a-lifetime safari, you might come to the shocking conclusion that it is actually not such a once-in-a-lifetime vacation, but more like a once-every-year vacation. Next thing you know, you might be moving to Africa... Do not say I did not warn you. I am not currently adding content to this website. Why? Due to hard work on my new venture - BookDisciple.com. This website reviews and recommends trustworthy Christian books. I also have a blog called Carbon Copy that shares stories from my daily life in Africa, and tells readers about my passion to promote Christian literature. Below you will find links to the relevant sections of this website, answering all the questions listed above. I hope you enjoy your visit to my website, and if you need anything that you can't find, or want to suggest anything, feel free to make use of the contact form on the Contact Dries page.
